KIPKE, Željko, painter, publicist (Čakovec, 3/3/1953). He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1976. From 1976 to 1980, he was an associate in the master class workshop led by Lj. Ivančić and N. Reiser. He explores the primary and the analytical in painting. In the 1980’s, he started introducing expressionism, symbolism, numerology and text into his works. Some of his more relevant series include Theatrum mundi, Mundus subterraneus, Lodge of black optics and Therapia. Through his series Beware of Imitations, he returned to the abstract structure of symbolic expression. He took part at the Venice Biennale in 1993. Since 1982, he has been publishing critical and theoretical texts and reviews in magazines “Dometi”, “Quorum”, “Život umjetnosti” and others. His works have been both exhibited and held in museum in Croatia and worldwide.
